A building supply manufacturer, through quality products and good business decisions, faced the challenge of delivering its products to home improvement retailers and wholesale building supply companies throughout the eastern U.S. This included the coordination and management of deliveries from numerous independent operating locations. To manage the task, they relied on PTG Logistics.

PTG Logistics brought in long-term, experienced managers and implemented a “common fleet” approach in order to create and manage one operation instead of multiple independent locations. This view maximized visibility to inter-company freight and made the supply chain more efficient and effective. In addition, by coordinating transportation spend with the client’s Load Center, PTG Logistics identified Dedicated vs. TL movements.

The efficiencies of the common fleet approach led to an immediate reduction in fleet size. Inbound loads and inter-company freight savings amounted to $1.13MM among the locations operated in 2009. PTG Logistics currently run 33% empty miles with true dedicated service.
